What Is Testosterone?

Testosterone is the primary sex hormone and anabolic steroid in males. In male humans, testosterone plays a key role in the development of male reproductive tissues such as testes and prostate, as well as promoting secondary sexual characteristics such as increased muscle and bone mass, and the growth of body hair. In addition, testosterone is involved in health and well-being, and the prevention of osteoporosis. Insufficient levels of testosterone in men may lead to abnormalities including frailty and bone loss.

As many men get older, their testosterone levels can decline, resulting in many negative side effects. You may notice a dip in your sex drive or the ability to hold an erection. Some men see a change in their concentration levels, may gain weight or suffer from insomnia because of low testosterone levels. When experiencing these signs and negative symptoms, you may have what is called “hypogonadism”. TRT is a great solution to help you win the battle against lowering testosterone.

What Is Testosterone Replacement Therapy and how it does help?

Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), or more appropriately, testosterone optimisation therapy  is primarily used to treat low testosterone levels. Testosterone levels can decline with age or as a result of a medical condition.

Testosterone replacement therapy can help you live a healthier and happier life, last longer in bed and be more physically active. It is important to have the required concentration and motivation to do the things you love. Your work, sex life and hobbies are important to us and we’ll keep you fit and feeling well, no matter your age. There are many ways to boost your testosterone naturally, but when this isn’t enough, TRT can help.

A healthy diet and regular exercise are necessary for good health and to ensure the maximum effectiveness of testosterone treatment. Follow-up care and monitoring is recommended.

The Benefits of Restoring Your Testosterone

Healthy heart and blood

A healthy heart pumps blood to the rest of the body, providing muscles and organs with the oxygen needed for peak performance. Testosterone helps red blood cell production through the bone marrow. Low testosterone levels are linked to a variety of cardiovascular risks.

Less fat, more muscle

Testosterone is responsible for increased muscle mass. Leaner body mass helps control weight and increases energy. For men with low testosterone, studies showTrusted Source that treatment can decrease fat mass and increase muscle size and strength. Some men reported a change in lean body mass but no increase in strength. It’s likely you’ll see the most benefits when you combine testosterone therapy with strength training and exercise.

Stronger bones

Testosterone plays a huge role in bone mineral density. Bone density decreases as men age and testosterone levels drop. This raises the risk of weak bones and osteoporosis. Strong bones help support your muscles and internal organs, which can boost athletic performance.

Better verbal memory, spatial abilities, or mathematical reasoning

Research shows that men with higher ratios of total testosterone have a reduced incidence of Alzheimer’s disease. There’s also evidence for a strong correlation between testosterone and thinking abilities such as verbal memory and faster processing speed. Testosterone treatment for men 34 to 70 years old has shown an improvement in spatial memory.

Better libido

Testosterone levels naturally rise in response to sexual arousal and activity. Men with higher levels of testosterone usually have greater sexual activity. Older men need more testosterone for libido and erectile function. But it’s important to note that erectile dysfunction is often due to other conditions or medications rather than low testosterone levels.

Improved mood

The effects of testosterone replacement therapy on mood can vary. Men with hypogonadism reportedTrusted Source improved mood and well-being, and reduced fatigue and irritability. Research suggests that this treatment may also be an effective anti-depressant treatment.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy FAQs

How do you know I’m a good candidate for testosterone replacement therapy?

The extensive consultation we do will give us the results we need to determine if you are a good candidate and what your protocol should consist of. A reasonable guide to tell us if you qualify is if your total testosterone level is less than 300 ng/dl, among other results from your bloodwork.

What are the symptoms of Low Tesosterone?

As is the case with any type of medication, there are a number of side effects you could experience with Male Hormone Replacement Therapy. Of course, not everyone is going to experience these side effects, but it is critical that you are aware of them.
Some of the minor potential side effects that are experienced with TRT include increased urination, acne, and fluid retention. Some of the more severe, yet rare, potential side effects include increased number of red blood cells, infertility, decreased sperm count, increased cholesterol levels, worsening of existing sleep apnea, decreased testicle size, and breast enlargement.

If you do experience increased red blood cells, this can result in blood clots in your blood vessels, chest pain, blurry vision, high blood pressure, and muscle pain. If you do notice any of the side effects that have been discussed, it is important to get in touch with us at the earliest opportunity.

How long will I have to take testosterone?

Every person will have a bespoke treatment plan, but we encourage at least six months of treatment to see results. We will track your progress to ensure your plan is working and is correct as your testosterone improves.

Is TRT always needed or necessary?

TRT is not a required treatment. It is an elective treatment that should only be considered if you are suffering from symptoms. At ZEN HEALTHCARE Clinic, we treat symptoms over test results. Should you wish to improve your testosterone levels, there may be alternative ways to achieve this – such as through diet, sleep, exercise and supplements. We would always recommend this as a first call of action.

Are there any side effects of taking testosterone?

We will create a well planned TRT treatment to help negate any potential negative side effects. However, some men experience mild side effects like irritability, acne, weight gain, headaches, nervousness, and — in rare cases — prolonged erections. Previously, testosterone replacement was connected to cardiovascular issues, but a recent study showed there was no increased risk for heart attacks or strokes.
